I'M COMING HOME

I have been looping endlessly Skylar Grays song " I'm Coming Home" and when Sally suggested a photoshoots with a winter theme, I knew this was a chance to turn the song into photos. The song is on the top of this post if you wish to listen to it along you scroll these pictures. These pictures were taken on the Christmas Day at Kulosaari Helsinki. Clock was around 10 a.m and the ocean was peaceful and sun rising against the chilly frost.  We had only two outfits, no assistants. Only her and me, and in the ends well a little elf called Viksu. Our point was only to use pretty locations and later I would turn them into fairyland wonders by the computer. This was quite fast photo session and I was a bit unsure when I got home, but my unsure expectations turned real quickly into one huge "Heureka!"-kind of smile!

PHOTOGRAPHERS NOTES

I'm amazed actually. Not once have I succeeded on taking pictures in the snow that I would be anywhere pleased with. Usually the lights and none fitting filters were my problem. But this time thanks to my new help lights I finally managed to get great pictures! Hoping to get a chance to do this again real soon with someone! I was really inpatient in this set, as I wanted to prepare them ready right a way. There are many details in this photo sets and to help you notice, how much there really is going on, I prepared also some before after gifs

THE WILD PINEAPPLE

This photoshoot wasn't in the first place suppose to end up like this.

I asked Paula for my model for the first time. Before this we had

met once at my book's [ Blog By The Book ] publishing party.

Our plan was to pick one outfit and take a walk around Sörnäinen and photograph

some skater girl stuff. But the weather wasn't too fancy and I was trying to figure one

warmer option. We ended up the location to be Botanical Garden of Kaisaniemi.

We didn't have any props so I asked Paula to buy an photogenic pineapple!

And this is what happened next...

I am really pleased with this set. Even tough it

 was really dark place and also the first time 

for Paula to be a model for anyone. I wanted and old film 

effect and a bit shady and soft effect. The darkness

 wasn't a problem here since I saved the photos as 

RAW files, but I can assure that I didn't need to add 

any extra film grains to this one!

School Day#1 Photoshop

I started studying at Helsinki Design School this fall. I have already once graduated as a photographer 3 years ago. Back then the school was AV-Heltech, also located in Helsinki. The main reason that I wanted to go to this school, is actually very simple.

"I Want New Contacts."

I didn't expect in the first place the school to teach me a lot of new things. I also wanted to ride a bit on the schools name, to rise my own works value. So far there has just been a few homework and very little new information for me. Of course most of students in my class are just beginners in photography's world, so the teachers have to start up really slowly. I of course understand this. But this makes a bit lonely out there. I was hoping to after many years to connect with my new colleagues and talk about all photography's insides and how their own works are going and also share some photos and experiences. But sadly it appears no-one is on that level with me on this one.

I am not gonna deal about my school a lot on this blog, but I might share some of the homework pictures and projects that are related to the studies.

Anyways, I documented my school day, today and share what I did.

"Had to buy Laptop for the photoshop lessons."

"Got the first homework returned to us. I got 5-/5. Paola Suhonen, our "art teacher", wished me to be braver with scaling the picture. Other than that she appear to love this shot. I will share the whole collection very soon!"

"Homework #4 On it's way to receive critique from Valtteri Hirvonen. Photoshop. I already know where a big minus is gonna come from. shhh.."

Winter Wonderland #1

WINTER WONDERLAND

I got inspired for this look from one of L'arme magazine covers.

This actually gave me a lot of new ideas and I can't wait to get 

more of these glitter globes to work with something new 

and yet different set ups.  Julia and Salla are models of Finnish

webstore Winkie Winkie and they were just perfect for this test. This collection

was made for their Christmas set up on the web store's wall.

This photo with the both of them standing inside the globe is actually prepared 

from separated photos as the girls couldn't make it to the studio at the same time.

PHOTOGRAPHERS NOTES

I loved everything about this project. Though I was pulling my hair off, while cleaning the golden ink from the lines on the bottom of the globe. The final result is anyway as I planned it and I am very happy of how it turned out. There are more coming from this set and I am gonna keep you updated.
